Too many calves are being born" - NZZ reports on calf suffering
In unprecedented detail, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) describes the issue of calf overproduction in agriculture. Many calves are born without any agricultural use intended for them. The article focuses on the harsh, immoral reality of an industry that treats young animals merely as commodities that must be profitable. This involves cruel transport on land and sea, a life-hostile dairy industry, and ultimately also consumer interests. Our AWF project leaders, Iris Baumgärtner and Maria Boada, contribute their expertise on the transport issue.
